IMPORTANT MEMBER INFO!! PLEASE READ!

Hey folks,

As most of you are aware, I've been "carrying forward" gigs on our calendar every Tuesday for folks who post them, as a courtesy because there is no "recurring" function on our calendar. (Solved in the next version, beta-testing now!)  Well, due to the high amount of erroneous information I have been getting and subsequently posting, I'm going to have to stop doing that. I've gotten dozens of complaints lately, all of which were either because I was given bad info, accidentally missed carrying forward one gig out of dozens, or wasn't notified when a gig ENDED.

So I have to make a change:

From now on, I won't be "carrying forward" any more gigs,
unless I am notified by the venue or the artist
(in writing via email or PM or post on here)
that they are ongoing.

(And it would be nice to know when they end as well...your patrons get angry when they show up and you're not there!)

I've been asked to "check people's websites" for gigs every week....but not only do I not have the time to go "scrape" hundreds of websites for gigs, but I cannot rely on websites for info, either - they are very often wrong! Gigs change constantly, and websites often don't reflect those changes. I need confirmation from a PERSON involved with the gig, or it won't be listed, not by me anyway.

Even better - if you have time to inform me of the gig, then you have time to put it on the calendar yourself.
I would greatly appreciate the help -  it's not hard to do, and we provide the How-Tos.

Remember that YOU make money on your gigs.  We don't.
If you are an artist or a venue, it is your job to promote yourself - as an entrepreneur, you are responsible for your OWN success or failure.
Promoting yourself on WT takes 5-10 minutes per week, and gains you benefits far beyond just this site.... 98 Rocks, KSCL, and more.
And if you post them yourself, then YOU are in control of how it looks, what it says, if there's a flyer/picture or not, etc.
I am simply going to list "so-and-so@whatever-place".  If you want more than what I offer for free, then take the reins!  ;)

Our focus is on bringing the traffic (eyes and ears) here, keeping WT running smoothly and efficiently, and keeping the Bad Guys off the site...which is now harder than ever!
Your focus should be on taking advantage of our work, to best benefit YOU.

As always, we welcome any suggestions or feedback!
And if you wanna beta-test the new site, let me know and I'll set you up an account.

Thanks!
Doc and Paige

PS: In the next version, this won't be a problem, the calendar does recurring dates...but with a limit so they don't just "go on forever".

Wow!
I can't believe the outpouring of supportive emails I'm getting back on this!
A few quotes (with no identifying info in them...):

"I think that it's awesome that you're putting a little more personal responsibility on the bands and open mic nights that you advertise... I think that some musicians just want everything (advertising, promo, etc) done for them, but when it's a slow night they are amazed and want to blame it on someone else. Again, thank you very much."

"You provide a free tool to market the events and I am thankful of that.  Everyone else should post their own gigs and not try and get you to do that.  I agree 100% that it's not your job.
Good move and thanks for your efforts in promoting music in the area."

"Keep up the great work!!!  the kinks will aways work themselves out..Thanks for providing your community service for the musicans and the venues"

"Thank you for taking your limited and most precious asset (time) to promote live music in the Shreveport and surrounding area. You are a irreplaceable to us as musicians and if you are not being told I am telling you God bless you and Paige for trying to help us make money doing what we love so dearly."

Aw, shucks, Thanks guys and gals!

We really appreciate your support and understanding.

Amen, Doc!  I'm one of the world's worst about not posting my gigs on time, or not posting them at all!  But you know what...when I do that, I shoot myself in the foot!  I shouldn't expect y'all to do it for me...and I don't!  You and Paige are providing an enormous service to this area by just HAVING a place for us to post our gigs, or to plan our night out listening to the other fine musicians we have in this area.  Keep up the good work by providing a vehicle for us to promote ourselves.

Amen to all of the above.  There is enough promotion of freeloading going around for everyone, no need to promote it here.
