Just wanted to pass on a friendly warning to any of you guys who are hiring out to do gigs with other groups.

I was scheduled to perform with local band Dixie Tradition.  I didn't know that I was actually performing with them, I thought my group was opening for them.  I learned this on the Monday before the show (which was the coming Sunday).  I showed up to practice and was handed a song list of 23-24 songs (many of which I didn't know) and was told "these are the songs we need you to play."

I'm an easy going/drama free guy (several WTers can speak to that) and decided to roll with it...practiced with them that night, went home and purchased the songs I didn't have on iTunes and practiced my butt off all week.  I ordered some higher quality gear (new cymbals, which I had to pay 2 day freight $80 to get here in time for their show) and some drum mics, since it was an outdoor venue, I wanted to put on a good show for them; thinking I'd recoup part of the money from the gig....which they said paid $110.

They were still searching for someone to cover lead, so I busted my butt trying to help and put them in contact with a reference I got, Cole Vosbury (very talented guitar player)...as it turnes out he was their old guitar player....they thought he was in Nashville, unaware he had moved.  I was able to get them his new number and they got in touch with him.

Practiced my ass off all week, was packed and ready for the show...posted an update Friday (2 days before the show) on FaceBook about my busy weekend....then got a call after one of the guys who read the post and was told "you know you aren't playing with them on Sunday, they're using their old drummer."

Aparrently when they got in touch with their old guitar player (the guy I gave them the number to), they also decided to call their old drummer to put the "old band" back together again.

So, just a warning, if any of you guys are asked to play with/for them....get a written contract or money up front!  And dang sure don't help them find musicians...they might decide to replace you and not tell you!  I have yet to receive any compensation for time/money spent/lost.....They haven't even had the decency to pick up the phone or email and say "SORRY!"

Bad enough we have to deal with venue owner/manager/bookers who have no decency nor dependability when dealin' with musicians.. now we gotta watch out for other pickers... just a note (from an "old-fart" picker who's been done just about every way thinkable). Just because they own some band equipment, don't necessarily make them "musicians"... Honesty, Honor and Support has to be included somewhere in the mix.. also helps a little to be able to play said band equipment...
Don't have a clue who these guys are... not passin' judgement, but don't bring that crap to East Texas.. you might have a problem gettin' back across the border..

Wow got a call today about this post. I wanted to set the record straight.

First of all I had no idea who Brian Allison was until he come to a practice/audition the night in question. A friend of mine just had added him to their band and they had only played one or two shows with him when they sent him over to practice to possibly play for us but nothing was ever set in stone and the band leader knew this.  After hearing him that night we decided he was not the drummer for Dixie Tradition's style.  So I then contacted the band leader of the band that very next day and explained that we were going to use our old drummer since he was available and to please let Brian know. I did find out after Brian all of a sudden sent me a very threatening text message that the band leader did not tell Brian this change until two days before the show which i didnt know or I would have called him myself.

In regards to him finding us a lead guitar player we had one that night he was there playing right beside him. However, the lead player had family coming in from out of town and asked if we could find a fill in for him just this time. . Brian did mention Cole being back in town and we was not aware he was back,  but we had his number already he never gave us his number remember he was our previous lead player.

God Bless
Mrs. T -
